Spider-Man Show With 97% RT Keeps Getting Better Ahead Of Its Fall 2026 Return

Disney+'s sleeper hit, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, will return in Fall 2026, and the show just keeps getting better with every new announcement and interview. Spider-Man is having a great year, and it's only going to get better.

Spidey and His Amazing Friends returns for season 5, introducing a whole new generation of superhero lovers to Spider-Man. Nicolas Cage's highly anticipated Spider-Noir will hit streaming on May 27, 2026. The summer will give us the newest Spider-Man MCU movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. On top of that, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man comes back in Fall 2026.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was a surprise hit, considering it didn’t get nearly as much promotion as the live-action Marvel projects. The first season was fantastic, so the hype is well deserved. Luckily, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man keeps getting better leading up to the season 2 premiere.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Is The Best Since TSSM

It’s pretty widely agreed upon that The Spectacular Spider-Man (TSSM), which ran from 2008 to 2009, is the best Spider-Man TV show. The show remains faithful to The Amazing Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man comics while also respecting the previous TV shows and movies. The show maintains continuity, allowing the stories to build on each other across the two seasons.

They have crazy-good fight scenes that make up for any general weaknesses in the animation. They delve into topics like mental health, financial struggles, and corrupt leaders in an appropriate way for younger viewers. Plus, Josh Keaton is one of, if not the, best actor to voice Peter Parker’s Spider-Man.

Given how much Spider-Man fans love TSSM, it will be difficult for any other animated TV show to live up to that legacy. However, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which came out in 2025, gets pretty darn close to that same level of quality and storytelling. It’s, without a doubt, the best one since The Spectacular Spider-Man ended seven years ago.

On top of that, the 3D cel-shaded animation is an homage to the early The Amazing Spider-Man comics by Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr. This makes it the most visually intriguing Spider-Man TV show, even more so than TSSM.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Puts A “What If…?” Spin On The Comics We Love

What makes The Spectacular Spider-Man so great is that it stays true to the comic books and Raimi movies. What makes Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man great is that it is absolutely nothing like the source material, and it doesn’t try to be.

Instead, it takes the most crucial elements and puts a spin on them akin to the show What If…? They even kept Hudson Thames, the actor who voiced Peter Parker in that show. Because it exists in an alternate universe similar to the MCU, the writers can incorporate elements of the MCU without being beholden to its canon.

They reimagine the origin stories in a clever way. Most notably, Peter Parker gains his abilities through a temporal paradox caused by Doctor Strange fighting a symbiote through time.

The show also incorporates interesting villains and some Marvel characters who don’t often cross paths with Peter Parker. It’s entertaining to see Norman Osborne, who hasn’t become Gobby yet, as the mentor to Peter Parker instead of Tony Stark. He goes up against Scorpion and Chameleon, two underappreciated Spidey villains. Peter has run-ins with Daredevil long before the events of No Way Home.

He goes to a different school, so his core group of friends is Nico Minoru from Runaways, Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, and Harry Osborne. Amadeus Cho is his co-intern at Oscorp Industries. Plus, all of season 1 takes place against the backdrop of the alternate universe version of Civil War.

The What If…? premise gives the creative team plenty of latitude going into season 2, which will air in Fall 2026, and into Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 3, which has already been renewed and is estimated to release in Fall 2027.

The team can pick and choose which traditional Spider-Man characters to incorporate. Cloak and Dagger originated with Spectacular Spider-Man #64,

so they'd be a great addition. Alternatively, they can have fun with it by bringing in other heroes. I love that the writers can just have fun with it, capturing the spirit of the comics to begin with.

The Underrated Spider-Man TV Show Has Confirmed Exciting Characters For Season 2

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man had a decent slate of traditional Spider-Man characters mixed up with different characters. However, it’s missing a few key players, and the show will introduce at least two of them in season 2. Not only does this continue to expand the world of Spider-Man, but it will delight fans of the comic book characters.

On the heroes’ side, Gwen Stacy will join the cast, potentially giving Peter Parker another webslinger to deal with. This is one moment that proves the alternate universe was the right choice. The character doesn’t exist in the MCU, at least as of the time of writing. The introduction of other Spideys opens the door for future seasons.

The villains’ side is in for a shakeup, too. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 will reunite three of the most iconic Spider-Man villains. Venom will join the fun, which is even better since the first season introduced Dock Ock as a bad guy and hinted at Norman becoming the Green Goblin. It would be epic to see all three of them in the same scene again.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 Will Take A Darker Turn

There's an ongoing joke within the Spider-Man fandom that writers will never let Peter Parker be happy. Every time he seems to get a small moment of joy, it's ripped away from him. This trend will continue in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2, which will reportedly take a more tragic turn.

Actor Aleks Le, who plays Amadeus Cho, was asked about the second season, and he responded, "The only thing that I can tease is that, what we did in Season 1, it just gets more and more grand, more tragic, more funny." Three things stick out as storylines that would be the most tragic.

Firstly, Peter's friend Lonnie Lincoln is actually the villain Tombstone in the comics. If he took that twist, it would absolutely devastate our hero. Secondly, Norman Osborn could become the Green Goblin. He looks up to his mentor, so his becoming Gobby would be a gut punch. Lastly, they could give Nico the ending traditionally used for Gwen Stacy. Even if they aren't romantically entangled, losing a best friend would break Peter.

Obviously, there are many other directions they could go that would be devastating, but at least the first two of these feel like it’s only a matter of time before they happen. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has so much potential, and it will be exciting to see what twists they throw in for Peter Parker.
