There are a lot of reasons to be excited about Prime Video's Fourth Wing adaptation, and Michael B. Jordan's continued career success adds another one. Fantasy book adaptations always have a lot of potential, yet they continue to fall flat for those fans who were so eager to see them brought to the screen. After so many disappointments, it's only fair that we feel skeptical when a new one is announced. A Fourth Wing adaptation sounds like a great idea, but there are so many ways it could go wrong. Thankfully, the project's creative team, which includes Jordan, is making things look pretty positive.

Fourth Wing is the first installment in The Empyrean Series by author Rebecca Yarros, which kicked off in 2023. The fantasy romance story took BookTok by storm, and Yarros essentially became a sensation overnight. Her second novel, Iron Flame, arrived later that same year, and the third, Onyx Storm, hit shelves at the start of 2025. Yarros' readers are hungry for more, and she has two more novels in the works to complete the series. In the meantime, Prime Video is getting to work on its Fourth Wing TV show, with Jordan attached as executive producer.

Michael B. Jordan's Reputation Makes Prime Video's Fourth Wing Show Even More Exciting

Jordan's career is flourishing, as evidenced by his crowning moment at the 2026 Oscars, when he won the Academy Award for Best Actor based on his performance in the film Sinners. Of course, this has nothing directly to do with Fourth Wing. Jordan isn't even expected to appear in the upcoming TV series. Still, his claim to so much success and renown bodes well for the romantasy series. After all, Jordan's status means he can be picky about what sorts of projects he picks up as an actor or producer. If Fourth Wing is on his list, we can assume he has some confidence in the project.

If there is any doubt in this fact, Jordan's own words banish it entirely. Everything he has said about the romantasy show indicates he recognizes how big a deal it will be for fans. While discussing Fourth Wing, Jordan said he wants to deliver "on all the things the fans want," adding that he knows "how beloved this franchise IP is." Jordan has also expressed his desire to produce something high-quality as he discusses the potential cast. He wants a variety of familiar and new faces in Fourth Wing, ensuring the fantasy world is as immersive as it possibly can be.

While we are still a ways off from the Fourth Wing premiere, Jordan's attachment and comments about the series suggest that this project isn't being treated as a joke. While this should be obvious, the fantasy genre (especially romantacy) is often taken advantage of by the TV industry. Creatives try to capitalize on an existing IP and its fanbase without any regard for what they actually want to see on screen. The result is often something cheap and mocking, and Fourth Wing could easily suffer that same fate in the wrong hands.

Fourth Wing Would Be A Disaster In The Wrong Hands

Fourth Wing is the sort of IP that would make any producer see dollar signs. After the success of Game of Thrones, everyone is eager to make their own violent and sexually explicit dragon-rider fantasy show. This makes Yarros' story a potential gold mine. The trouble with this is that there are plenty of creatives out there who would see Fourth Wing as a shoo-in. Just throw the characters on a screen, toss in some cool CGI, and let the money roll in.

It's far too often that screenwriters, producers, and directors demonstrate through their adaptations that they have no respect for the fanbase. They simply want to cash in on viewers' passion for a story. While we can't know for certain that those behind Fourth Wing aren't doing the same, we can be reassured by Jordan's independent success. His big name suggests that we can expect quality rather than cheap pandering. Only time will tell, but it certainly looks as if Prime Video's fantasy show is in good hands.
